petitemom, in eleven years of homeschooling I’ve never found a typing program I like better… BUT no matter how you approach it, learning to type is work. I think of it a lot like drilling math facts. The kids really need to do it, but it is very unlikely that they are going to love the process, if you know what I mean.
I do find that my boys don’t progress well with typing if they are not doing it very regularly (I schedule it five days a week and sometimes even six if I have a kid who is not progressing) but for short periods of time. I think it is important that they know the time will be very short, because it really does require a high level of concentration. I expect them to work hard for those few minutes daily.
Also they do better if I am in the room with them, they stay more focused that way.
I really like the logical progression of the lessons, and the fact that after you’ve used TypingWeb for a while, it generates lessons that are specific to your own personal trouble spots. This has been a useful feature for my kids.
That’s just been our experience though… others might have a different take on it. 🙂
