Found a really good biography…now what do we do with it?

A little background…my son would really like to learn more about the American Revolution.  He’s been doing some study on his own, reading a bit, watching some series by PBS and the History Channel (both are *wonderful*, by the way).  But not a focused study.  I’ve found a biography of George Washington by Albert Marrin that I think would make a great study of the Revolution.  So now, what do I do?  Do I simply have him read a chapter at a time, and do a narration of each chapter?  He’s high school age, so I would have him do written narrations.  Anything else?  Any suggestions?  We’re new to narrations, so I’m not sure how to help my son develop this skill.

    Thanks!

He can write some narrations and perfect them through the week and also do some oral narrations. It is not necessary to have every chapter narration written down. A full chapter may be a little long, though; see what he can handle. The Marrin books are awesome, by the way. I’ve not read a more balanced view than his of history. We’ve read quite a few but I’ve never heard of the Washington one. I’ll take al look at my library!

Thank you, Cindy, that’s very helpful.

This is the first Marrin book I’ve read, and I’m really enjoying it.

My son told me last night that he’d really like to focus on Nathaniel Greene, as he finds him very interesting.  So, I’m off to try to find a good biography.  I thought I’d follow my son’s lead, and let him learn through the person he’s most drawn to from the Revolutionary War.  I’ll use the Marrin biography on Washington as a read aloud.

    Thanks again!
