Beccawalker-I always say that you are never behind if you’re following God’s plan-you’re exactly where He wants you to be and so are your children. Studying history is a life long pursuit so there really isn’t any need to hurry into it with young children IMO. It sounds you like you have a full plate and are doing a wonderful job in the circumstances that God has give you at the moment. There will be plenty of time for “catching up” on history studies later! Enjoy those babies; they will be grown like mine all too soon!

My son is nearly 21 and my daughter just turned 14 so she isn’t completely grown, thankfully! Honestly, they don’t remember that much history from their elementary years anyway. History is my favorite subject (along with literature) and we read lots of living history books but they have forgotten much more than they retained! Their history studies really blossomed in middle school and high school and they learned and retained tons at those ages.

Thanks for the replies.  I heard that kids don’t remember much before middle school.  Melanie32  your words are encouraging  to me also.  I think I worry too much about school and giving my kids enough. I have been praying and remembering that being where God wants me to be is what’s important. We are also moving out of state in a few weeks and I am worrying about days we will miss,  wondering how much time to take off….I was a public school teacher so it’s hard for me. I’m used to getting permission to change things.
