    Christie – or perhaps others…

We’re heading to FL for a trip and would love to get some hands on experience with the Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day – my oldest is in Third grade – we’ll be stopping in Orlando and then heading down to West Palm Beach – we found a Manatee siting spot along the way.  Are there any other things you can recommend?  We know about Sea World, but will probably skip it this time, because the girls want to go to Disney and we can’t afford a day at Disney AND at Sea World – so we’re looking for more affordable options.

    Thanks!

I have just a minute, but will post more later. You may want to check out Marineland in St. Augustine. It’s around $10 to just enter and view, more for interactive experiences. I’ve not been in years, but I plan to go soon. Sea world really is great, our family prefers it over the Disney parks, but we love marine life. It is pricey, though. The Alligator farm is also in St. Augustine and is nice, but only if you ge a good deal. Winter the dolphin from Dolphin Tale is at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. I’ve heard good things, but haven’t been myself yet. I’ll noodle some more and post again later.

Alright, I’m butting in here, but I just want to agree wholeheartedly that Sea World is way better than Disney! WAY. BETTER.

Try FL Oceanigraphic Center (?) in Stuart/Hutchinson Island. Very cool! Adults – $10, children 3-12 – $5. There’s a boardwalk through the area (make sure you have bug repellant). Just north of WPB. Haven’t been to the zoo but I hear it’s nice. Just off the hwy in south WPB. Wasn’t real impressed with the aquarium in Miami. But I confess I enjoy the Tampa one MUCH better!

If you haven’t finished planning or already left. I just remembered

Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTM Research Reserve) in Ponte Vedra, FL (basically Jacksonville Beach area) – they have an education center

Jacksonville Zoo is great, too, but there isn’t much in the way of marine life except the sting ray exhibit (extra cost). It is a great zoo, though.

We did like the Tampa Aquarium, but got in for $5 on a special day.

We are planning a trip to Florida ourselves.  We will get our Seaworld tickets with our Airmiles.  I can’t remember the exact amount, but I’ve got enough for our four tickets and then some.

Don’t forget, Sea World usually offers a free 2nd day with ticket purchase. If you’re a FL resident, the FL Fun card is a great deal!
