Are my expectations realistic? I’m trying audiobooks this year to occupy the other one waiting.
TristanParticipantIt looks okay to me, here is a question – what of those are family subjects (done with you and kids), what are individual subjects (done by the child on their own), or just with mom subjects (alone, no sibling, but with you)?
Sometimes I find it easier to do all our family/group work first in the day and then they handle individual work – because then I don’t have to call kids back as a group several times. Each family is different though!
mrsmccardellParticipantLast year we did family subjects and then mom/child subjects but it was long, esp. for the one waiting for their turn. I’m trying to mix it up throughout the day which is where the audiobooks come into play. Most subjects are family excluding math, phonics, and copy work.
I’m certainly eager for independent work but no one reads yet so it’s still one-on-one.
Thanks for your feedback.
HollySParticipantIt looks good to me. I like your idea of audio books. I’m always trying to find activities for them to do while waiting. I try to have one playing with my 1yo and they take turns with that. We also do things like piano practice, Geopuzzles, typing lessons, etc. that they can do on their own. It is more difficult to find activities for non-readers. My 5yo usually plays with pattern blocks or geoboards. Maybe she’d like some audiobook recordings. 🙂
I also have to break up our family subjects. It is difficult getting everyone back together, but when we lump our family subjects, they lose focus quicker. On days where we have fewer lessons (like when we have a 1/2 day), I usually group them together.
