My DH and I have DS,15, DD,10, and DS,8 and over Christmas break I investigated how to best prepare them for a field in engineering. If that’s their choosing! After reading Practical Homeschooling Magazine (11/16) by Mary Pride, her husband wrote an article on just this topic. He recommends using 3 sketching classes (practical drawing) to prepare the student for drafting and 3 computer programming classes, which would be the prerequisites for CAD. The simple sketches 1,2,3 is by Insight Technical ed., and the Kidcoder, I got the textbook from amazon and the closeout videos from the Homeschooling Programming Kidcoder site.

What have others done when their children show interest in this direction? Thanks and blessings, Martha

I have only used this site for lesson plans to teach a co-op class, but http://tryengineering.org/ has some good information that might be helpful to you.

My son is not sure on a specific job, but he is interested in computer programming and drawing.

He is teaching himself programs such as Python, Blender, Advanced Blender, and a 2D animating software.

He is using Christian Light’s Technical Sketching and Drawing also.
