We used EftRU a couple years ago by using the free notebooking pages from cyncesplace.com.   My oldest and I went over the new root, I put it up on the wall, she filled in the notebooking page.  That was it.  Some of the roots stuck with her (she was only in 3rd grade at the time!!  Now she’s going into 6th.), some didn’t.  But we did nothing with EftRU last year.

So, for this year, I happened onto the flashcards and the Rummy Roots game (used and cheap!).  I thought perhaps my “4th grader” (dyslexic and behind in reading still – but we’re working on it!) could sit in on the lessons.  Now, my question is, “What shall the lessons look like?”

I guess it can be a simple as going over the new root and when we know about 5 start playing the game.  Review can be continuous.

Any ideas? How have you used the flashcards and Rummy Roots games in your house?

We don’t use the flash cards. We simply play the Rummy Roots games once a week for as long as it takes to memorize the root words. I go through the list and quiz my daughter orally once a week or so once I see that she has most of them down. When she has them all memorized we will move on to Rummy Roots 2.

My son still remembers his root words after using this method and he’s 20. 🙂

That sounds easy and fun enough!

    Thanks!
