    hi ladies

can anyone tell me how using SCM early modern times with a 7th grader is? I’ve never used SCM but am thinking of using it next year for my 7th, 4th and 1st graders. I’m mostly interested in how it works for the older child. I typically use Heart of Dakota which is CM’ish, but it is such a “full” program. (aka – it takes forever for my daughter to complete each day) I would love a lower key year next year and want to really make room to focus on really good literature.  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    thanks!

Ps – I’m not sure I’ve ever posted on here so I’m not sure this is in the right place. Please let me know if it needs to be redirected.

    Hi and welcome Poppy!

I haven’t used the complete SCM curriculum myself as I’ve planned my own CM studies for many years now. However I think the SCM plans are wonderful and so much more doable and rich than other programs out there. I love Heart of Dakota but it does seem like they include a lot of busywork.

The Early Modern Times plans for a 7th grader look wonderful. Have you had your daughter look them over to get her opinion? I find it’s nice to have their input as they get older and they often enjoy having some say so in their curriculum choices as well.
