Hello Everyone!  I would like to choose an Enrichment year idea plan that would go really well with what we’ll be studying this year at home (Early Modern and Epistles).  Any suggestions?  I like how everything goes so well together, but I’m having trouble with this part.

I’m very thankful for this forum and the many suggestions/ideas that I see.  Very grateful. 🙂

Hi, Nivia. Any of the Enrichment Year ideas can be paired with any of the history studies. Don’t worry about trying to match up everything to be coordinated with time period. In fact, variety is good! As long as you’re faithful to enter everybody (artists, poets, composers, etc.) in your Book of Centuries, the children will make their own personal connections.

An alternate would be, if you really want to try to coordinate everything, you could check the individual lists of artists and composers to see which ones fall in the 1550–1850 time period (what the Early Modern study covers).

    Hope this helps!

Thank you Sonya for your suggestions!  My daughter has recently enjoyed reading Pride and Prejudice, and besides the fact that she needs a credit in American History, and a credit in World History in hs, I thought I would make it enjoyable for her to read, study, do picture study, and maybe a composer that went along that time period, or close (Regency period).  I want her to LOVE history, and SCM helps to make it possible. I’m ashamed to say I didn’t like history when I was in school (studied for the test, forgot afterwards), and I don’t want that to happen in our schooling.  I’m praying that the Lord will help me to be creative and bring to mind ideas that are intentional and helpful in our history studies as well as with all our subjects.

Once again, I’m thankful for this forum!  🙂

Nivia, You can find some wonderful films to go along with the Regency period, too, which would be a way for your daughter (and you!) to see the dress of the period, as well as hear some of the music, depending on which films you choose. I think any of the films made from Jane Austen novels have at least one dancing scene with wonderful music, lovely costumes, and examples of the manners, customs, and social expectations of the period. Of course, that’s only one angle on the world of the Regency period, but you could throw in some of Charles’ Dickens novels and films to get a grittier viewpoint.

Just some thoughts! I was like you with history in school; I sensed that I should be interested but the way it was taught was anything but interesting.

Thank you alphabetika for your great suggestions! 🙂  I’m really getting excited about our history.  I’m in the midst of organizing/looking up suggestions that have been shared.
