Ladies, I have been looking at the SCM history modules.  I like the recommended family books in most guides except for the Modern Times guide.  Is Come Lord Jesus easily dropped or does it mess things up quite a bit?  Also, we are using A Child’s First Book of American History this year. Can that or This Country of Ours easily be used in place of the Stories of America?  Is the Modern Times guide worth it to me if I am going to change some of the “core” books?  Honestly I like AO line up for the history TCoO, Abe Lincoln’s World, and SoTW.  I understand though that AO YR 5 covers a shorter period of time than SCM.   I like almost all of the other books that SCM suggest in the module though.  lol

I’ve found SCM’s history guides to be very flexible.  You can easily skip the Bible portion or replace books as needed.  While I’d be hesitant to switch a core book, we have actually done that this year.  My DC weren’t enjoying Famous Men of the Middle Ages, so we’ve been reading from SOTW 2 in place of the other.  So far it hasn’t been a problem, and I don’t see it becoming one.

Personally, I still like having the guides, even if I’m making changes.  The wide margins make it easy to pencil in any changes, and I don’t have to calculate how many pages are to be read in everyone’s individual books…just in the books I’m changing.

Thank you Holly.  I think my concern is that I’m looking at dropping one of the core books Come Lord Jesus and changing two others.  Sigh.  I don’t feel that way about other guides…especially the Ancients-Middle Ages.
