Does CM recommend teaching the parts of speech? If so, when?? Also, using what curriculum?
TailorMadeParticipantWe cover these during grammar and writing instruction. It is listed in the TOC of this SCM book. I don’t have the book, but looked at the sample. CM way covers it through grammar, dictation, writing, and speaking (according to SCM resource.)
Our favorite resources for parts of speech have been Emma Serl’s Primary Language Lessons (and her Intermediate LL,) Queen’s Language Lessons, and as part of our writing assignments. Our older four children have all used IEW. It teaches parts of speech while teaching writing. It’s not a favorite resource for strict CMer’s, but has served us well. Our youngest may/may not use IEW as I’ve taught it for so long that discussing these things is easy without a curriculum.
You might check the Free Curriculum Guide for more suggestions. You’re probably looking at 4th grade, or older for this type of instruction.
vikingkirkenParticipantI don’t know if it’s CM, but we’re using MadLibs for that 😀
MonicaParticipantWe’ve been using MadLibs, too. LOL.
missceegeeParticipantWe cover it in junior analytical grammar in 4th and then again with analytical grammar later. Earlier I simply point out things during reading.
Sara B.ParticipantWe used MadLibs on our vacation last month, and the kids LOVED it! Even better, they are retaining it! I plan on continuing that just as fun on the side, and cover the rest through application through reading and written narrations, etc.
Theups1ParticipantMad libs!! FUN idea!!!!!!
Thank you all for your help!!
His,
Shari
mtnmamaParticipantWe liked learning the jingles from Shirley English along with Mad Libs, Junior
