Does anyone use this curriculum? What do you think about it? How often do you use it? I tried to use it last year just twice per week but that did not seem like it was often enough.
jill smithParticipantYes, we used it last year and my older kids really loved it. we will be using his Spanish this coming year. We did it 4 days a week so that it stuck.
BookwormParticipantThe year we used it, we used it daily. I don’t know that Latin can really have a chance to stick just being done twice a week. There is a lot of memorization involved for that. GSWL does not cover a lot of ground–maybe half to two thirds of a typical Latin I course. But it does a reasonably decent job of what it does.
Alicia HartParticipantHow old were your kids that used it? Did you finish most of the book? Hope I am not asking too many questions here!
Alicia HartParticipantThanks Bookworm – that is helpful to know.
Alicia HartParticipantWould you say that GSWL is a good into course to Latin?
pslivelyParticipantWe loved it here. We did four lessons per week. My kids were 6th and 7th grade. I think it is a wonderful intro course! I am looking forward to using his French course after we master latin. Do you know that he has audio lessons to go along with the book? We never used them, but I know they are available for free on his website.
erin.kateParticipantI used it last year with my two oldest, years 3 and 1, and we LOVED it. We will use it again this year and then transition to LFC or Linney or Minimus before Cambridge. We try to spend time daily on Latin. Just loved it. I found it very easy to teach and fun, as well.
Alicia HartParticipanterin.kate, What is LFC?
erin.kateParticipantLatin for Children
BookwormParticipantI used it with my youngest child about 11 at the time. It’s not a bad intro; it’s especially nonthreateningly, but it doesn’t go terribly far.
DesParticipantWe are using GSWL over the summer as our lead in before LC1. My Ds and I both are really enjoying it.
