Just wondering what anyone thinks of the writing assignments in Analytical Grammar.  Do you use them or not?

    Thanks,

Hmm, maybe I worded it funny.  I am simply asking, If you use AG, do you do the writing assignments?  She mentions they are optional, so I was just wondering what a fellow CMer would do.

    Anyone? 🙂

What writing assignments do you mean, delightx7? Can you give me a example?

Thanks for replying, Sonya.  At the beginning of my book there is a Schedule for implementation.  On Thursday, it says to go over Exercise #3.  Then it says “you can assign the writing assignment at this time, should you choose to it.”

The writing assignment for the first week is paraphrasing The Pledge of Allegiance as part of the Skills Support section.  Basically, the writing assignments throughout the book seem to be a paraphrase of something, with the goal of changing as many words as possible, but trying to leave the sentence strusture as it is originally written.

I guess I am wondering, where it is optional, if it is necessary.   Less time spent on Grammar means more time to spend on the good stuff:-)

    Clear as mud?

Oh, yes, the paraphrasing exercises. I figured those were close enough to narrating that our CM kids got plenty of practice in other subjects, so we didn’t do them. Well, to be specific, I just checked my oldest’s student book: we did the first three. Smile
