It is suggested to take a portion of a passage to dictate to the child.  When using a passage such as in the Spelling Wisdom workbooks, do we take a portion for that lesson and use a new passage for the next lesson? Or would the next lesson, continue with another portion of the previous passage and so on, until the entire passage has been dictated?

Your choice, Shannon. I usually keep moving so we don’t get bogged down for too long, but if there is a certain element in the passage that you want to be sure the student gets, feel free to stay there as long as needed.

If you’re sure the student knows how to spell every word (you’ve checked the words you/he were unsure of) and the capitalization and punctuation is just review/standard fare, there shouldn’t be any harm in just touching a portion and moving on.

    Perfect, thank you Sonya!
