  • So, being brand to both to homeschooling and to CM, I am dying to meet some other real live homeschoolers. I have tried searching online for homeschool groups, but when I actually find a working website for a local group, actually contacting and getting a response has been very difficult. There is one local group (Arlington, TX) that supposedly meets 3rd Friday of each month and I missed the first one for the school year! Is anyone out there with DFW area groups that are active?

I am in DFW and starting a CM group at my home.  On the 3rd Tuesdays. First meeting in September. I live just south of Arlington.  We are also part of a fabulous homeschool group, basically a yahoo group. We have park days, field trips, etc, and it is very relaxed.  PM me if you would like more info about either group 🙂

I’m in DFW but definitely not on the south side. I’m in Allen, which is between Plano and McKinney. We have many active groups up here.

seekingHISheart, It’s great that you’re starting a CM group in your home.

I’m pretty sure that wasn’t helpful, but I wanted to encourage you and post that we’re up North in case anyone else is looking in our area. 🙂

Anyone in the Garland/Rowlett/Rockwall area?  Just curious.  It would be great to have a group in this area.  I’d love to explore the possibility if there are others nearby.

Thanks everyone! SeekingHISheart, I will PM you!

I am forming a group of homeschoolers with a CM perspective. I will be offering classes but also am seeking other CM families to meet up for nature study, do special activities with composer or artist study, or have other activities. I am in Arlington, TX and am looking for families here and in surrounding areas. It has been difficult to find groups although I know they are out there!

I used to live in that area.  I miss it.  I know of a group in the Burleson area.  If you are close to that area and would like more information let me know and I’ll get you a phone number of some people involved in it.

I run a CM mom’s group from my home. We have had our final meeting until the fall but will be having a planning meeting this summer.  With possible interest in starting a CM co-op for nature study, etc.  Can PM me for details 🙂

I am in North Fort Worth, just north of 820 and west of I35 – is there anyone else with a group in that area?

Hi.  I am in North Fort Worth as well.  I have an older student, though…16 y.o. son.  We have never really found a group that suits us.  Some are too loosey-goosey and others way too uptight.

We use many CM ideas in our homeschool, but not purists by any stretch.  We use what works for us and incorporate CM things where we can.

I would love for my son to have some other homeschooled high schoolers to hang out with…and moms for me…but, we’ve found it difficult.

    Good luck in your search!

We moved from DFW a year ago. Just wanted to say that we found fellow CM homeschoolers through our local co-op group. There are lots of options in DFW, so go to a few different ones and see where you are most comfortable. Personally, I found that, the more structured the classes and overall feel of the co op, the less likely I was to find CMers in it! So you may have better luck if you look for people who are a little more relaxed and accepting.

Even if you don’t find a CM ‘group’ chances are good that you will find 2-3 like minded homeschoolers in any group that can come along side you on your journey!

    Blessings,

We used to live in Arlington and enjoyed a co op at Camp El Har (about 30 min. east) when my children were young…it was nice to get out of the city and into the woods a little (so hard to find in the metroplex). I don’t have any idea if this group is still around…I believe it was called “SALT”. When we were there they offered classes for all ages and the moms enjoyed connecting and an opportunity for encouragement and conversation throughout the day. Hope you find something!

EDIT: This group info was given to us in 2014 and we don’t know if any of these groups are still meeting. You may want to look on the Charlotte Mason in Community website for a group near you instead.

Last spring when we were at the Arlington Book Fair, we received a sheet with information on DFW Area Charlotte Mason Groups. Four groups were listed:

    • Lewisville/Flower Mound, TX
    • Frisco/Little Elm/Prosper, TX
    • Hurst/Euless, TX
    • McKinney/Plano/Allen, TX

If one is near you, feel free to contact us for the leader’s name or e-mail address. We’re happy to pass along that information (but we don’t want to post it here for spammers to grab).

    Pslively,

We are near Garland and would be interested in a local group.
