I am wondering how many of you are using DR and if you are finding it succesful. I have the intensive Phonics mindset but I have watched Sonya’s videos and wonder if this different approach may help.  A little history on the kids…My 10 year old is special needs and can read OK but she struggles a lot with all the traditional sight words. And words with silent e are very hard for her.  My 8 year old is a slow, laborious reader and has to sound out the words way more than I think he should at this point. He may possibly be mildly dyslexic. Then there is my 6 year old boy who is smart as a whip but can hardly sit still.  He has caught on to reading quite well but the phonics program I used this year only took him through the short sounds, a few sight words, th, ch, etc. No long vowel sounds. Of course we read readers and I just tell him phonics rules that he doesn’t know yet.  Wondering where to go from here….Sonya said at the completion of Delightful reading they should be reading on a 6th grade level.  Would DR work for my kids and actually, on average, how long would you use this program? And is it set up so you can start them at their level? Would it still be a valid program for my 6 yr old? Sorry so long!

    Bumping you!

I am also thinking to try DR this year.

Hope someone can answer you, I asked about this program before too, seems like there were not too many people around these days who have used it, maybe just my impression..

Here is another recent thread on which I posted our experience with it…in summary, I think it really depends on what the individual child needs and what aspects of reading are a struggle for them.
