I was wondering what kinds of credits to assign my son if we use the SCM history guides. I know it includes American history, world history and bible. We would be starting with the Early Modern guide.

Do I give full credits or 1/2 credits for each of these subjects? We would continue the next year with the Modern Times guide.

What about tests and quizzes for the portfolio? Do I just include samples of the work or do I need to come up with tests and quizzes to put in there as well?

Any ideas you have would be great! Thanks.

I wonder if there’s enough geography for credits there? I didn’t see her mention it.

I honestly think this is the most geography my children have learned!  I will probably count one geography credit for the 4 years put together…or 1/4 credit per year.

Looks like maybe no one has spoken to your question about the portfolio…SCM history guides have exam questions for end of term.  I will be putting those in our portfolio as well a a written narration now and then (we shoolt for one a week and i put a several of the better ones in there).  That’s all I have planned.  I do plan to use more of an interactive notebook approach this next term and see how that goes.  Basically, it will amount to varying our narration types more and having more frequent entries in our notebook/portfolio.  HTH!

I was also going to say that I too am going to give 1 credit for all the geography for those high school years.

These help me out a lot.  I figured that the written narrations could go in there, but I didn’t know there were exam questions in the guides.  That helps me out a lot when making decisions about which way to go.

Thanks for the input on geography as well.  Does anyone have any comments on how to make the geography worth more than 1/4 credit for a school year?  I mean, I can do it that way, but I’m not sure how that would look on the transcript.  Do I just do a transcript categorized in subjects?  That way the 1 full geography credit would appear instead of 1/4 each in grades 9-12.  I am still interested in any ideas to make the geography worth 1/2.
