I am considering using Creating a Masterpiece next year for my boys, who will be 5 and 7.

I am curious if anyone has used them with younger students, especially boys. How did it go?

    Thanks,

    Katrina

I’m really wanting some of this for Christmas. I would love the feedback for younger children too as my two 7YOs are very into art, and I’d hope to use it with them as well as our older three. Thanks to anyone who can provide feedback!

I am a very biased user.  My pastor’s wife is the creator and I have been helping her to promote her dvds at homeschool conventions, BUT the reason that I volunteered to help her is because I LOVE them SO much!

Sharon teaches art lessons to students in my area – her classes are SUPER expensive and I had so been wanting my girls to take lessons from her (they are currently 6 and 8), but my dh said, no – because my girls are not artistically gifted (in his opinion).  So I got one of Sharon’s dvds (the pastel of Peaceful Lake) and I completed it with them and it is AMAZING what they were able to do – their work is GORGEOUS.  I have it hanging in my dining room in beautiful frames because the work is such high quality.

Sharon is successful at teaching children art for a number of reasons – first she’s a professional artist (sculpted dolls for Danbury mint! and HSN) so she’s VERY talented.  Second – she’s an art teacher, so she’s experienced at teaching children (primarily homeschooled) projects that she KNOWS they can find success with.  Third – she’s a former homeschool mom, so she knows we’re concerned about value and that we don’t want to use an intimidating program that requires lots of preparation or knowledge on our part.

I helped connect Sharon with SCM because I use so many of SCM’s products and her videos reminded me very much of the handicraft videos that SCM sells.  And it’s such a good match because just like SCM, Sharon is very customer service oriented and is striving to create products that her customers are 100% happy with.

I love her vidoes, because while your child is learning how to complete a very specific project, they are also learning the concepts and techniques that they need to build a foundation to create their very own works of art.

The pastels are the easiest medium to work with, so I would encourage you to start there.  You also get the most bang for your buck because one pastel can be broken into 4 or 5 pieces and used for multiple children and multiple projects (I’m super excited that she’s using MANY of the same colors from the peaceful lake project to create a NEW project to be released soon – so you don’t have to buy all new supplies!)  I may get in trouble for mentioning it, but there’s rumor that a pirate ship is in the works!  (You didn’t hear it from me and I have no idea when it will be released – I was sneaking around her studio – shhhh!)  It will probably be a level 2, so get started with level 1 now!

    Blessings,

    Rebekah
