I have been evaluating our homeschooling curriculum and whether this is indeed the best fit for our family or whether some changes should be made.  I currently have a year 2 son with whom we have been using the HUFI curriculum up until now.  I was very set on this and never thought I would change, HOWEVER . . 1)  My son is more mechanically minded and the history readings (CHOW and TCOO) and literature selections do not come easy for him.  I think perhaps HUFI may be a bit too rigorous for him.  2) I also have three younger children, ages 5, 3, and 1 so I’m taking that into account as to whether I can really juggle it all in the coming years especially since I anticipate having to do my son’s readings well into year 3 since he is not a strong reader.    I have already bought some of the coming years history and geography books so I don’t want to make this decision lightly, but I do want to do what is best for my son and our family. My husband and I love the way SCM puts the whole family on the same page for history, geography and Bible.

Has anyone used both HUFI and SCM who could contribute some thoughts?

Will I just be complicating things by trying to make the switch since the history arrangements for HUFI are somewhat overlapping?  (Ancient Egypt and Exploration was covered in year 1 and Middle Ages /Renaissance  as well as Revolutionary War are this year)  Which Module should I start with considering this?

Thanks to anyone with some help!!

    Hi and welcomed! 🙂

I haven’t used HUFI but I have used AO and the two are very similar. I’ve always said I would definitely use SCM if I had several young children close in age. We always did our main learning as a family when my kids were little. I didn’t use AO then but designed my own CM curriculum as I do now. I only used AO for one year but have pulled from their reading lists as well as from SCM’s and HUFI’s over the years.

You have no worries about history overlap or starting a curriculum with a different history plan at this stage. Your children are still so young! I would relax and just enjoy learning together as a family. 🙂
