I’m contemplating combining two years worth of History.  My boys are both in high school and we just started working with the CM methods this year.  My oldest has already completed World History in 9th grade.  So this year we are studying Government and I’m running over Ancient World History with them (reviewing with the oldest) and Middle Ages History while doing this.  It’s going well.  Next year however, I do not think my now 10th grade son (oldest) would really want to repeat World History and he need US History.  I had thought about doing the World History portion with my youngest (2 weeks in one week or 4 days a week)  and American History with my oldest (2 weeks in one week or 4 days a week) from the Early Modern and Modern books.  Has anyone done this?  I know they would not be totally together, but I like the CM method and I want to make sure they get the high school credits they need when they need it.  I only have two more years after this to complete my oldest son’s education so I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate all of it.  TIA

I am using the Early & Modern History modules minus the world history portions. Basically, I just added the book list together and started reading 🙂 I *think* if you do 4 days a week, you’ll be fine. My boys have co-op classes so we aren’t completely on track because we lose a day of reading. And, I did the exact thing you stated, “2 weeks in one week or 4 days a week.”

All of my children are using the same modules this year, to make it easier on myself and because the books for the 1-3/4-6 are “must reads” for my youngest. And, my middle boy hadn’t read the books on his list so it has been great. We also added in the Visits to North America for geo.

    Hope this helps.

I haven’t cracked open the guides for Early and Modern yet, but I’m curious how you took out the world history portions. I’m considering combining those next year but never thought of taking out the world history portions. Is it divided evenly (world/U.S.)? I guess a better question is how much are you not doing by leaving out the world portions?

Basically you have two days of World History and 2 days of US History and 1 Day of Geography.  If I do 4 days of US History with one (basically doing 2 weeks worth in 1 week for US) and 4 days of World with the other (2 weeks worth in 1 week) I can get through Early and Modern in 1 year.  I just wasn’t sure if it would be too much.   Also is there some combination of things between the World and US portions that overlap where it wouldn’t make sense if I did it that way?

I’m not sure about it being divided evenly other than it’s 2 days world/2 days US/1 day geo. i combined both modules, added in a book or two (or more) that I wanted my boys to read and started reading. I’m loosely using the guides and trying to keep the Stories of America in line with what they’re reading, which may or may not be perfect and I’m ok with that. I look over the guides for my oldest to make sure he is keeping up with his BOC entries and the American Voices book. So far, so good.

My oldest is also reading/listening to John Adams (audible).
