    Good day,

I was trying to determine if the term “repetition”, that I’ve seen on some PNEU schedules,  has the same meaning of recitation that is more modernly used.  If so, would this be memory work that is recited orally once memorized?  Does anyone know exactly?  I just haven’t seen the “repetition” term used much on todays CM blogs.

    Thanks

Following. We’re trying for a mix of classical/Trivium education with CM, and the classical approach definitely uses the term “memorization”. It believes in reciting/memorizing poetry, Bible verses etc… for oral recitation, starting at a very young age.

I’ve researched this a bit and it seems that Charlotte Mason’s recitations were dealing with scripture, Shakespeare and poetry. I poked around at the AO website and came across some sample questions from Charlotte Mason’s exams for all 3 forms and all recitation directions were to recite from these 3 subject areas. To my understanding, Charlotte Mason memory work is focusing on verses and passages of literature that are beautiful and inspiring and in context, rather than the classical idea of memorizing countless facts apart from their context.
