I’m new here & so a very brief background ~

*We began homeschool this last year & we’re loving it. I’ve been working at trying to become more CM in our approach. As I read about her philosophy & understand more about CM,I see how it fits quite well into my thinking about education/life. We have 2 daughters: 7yo & 4yo.

*We’re using Sonlight & enjoying it. I plan to supplement/adjust things to CM ways as I understand them more & to see what reading/activities/approaches are recommended on this site. From what I percieve at this point, SL is CM-friendly in many ways.

Question: Is the CM Planner/Organizer compatible with the use of a curriculum such as SonLight?

I’d love to have something in which I can enter things as life happens too. With play, as the girls are doing now, learning happens naturally. Or when we do other activities.

I’m learning a lot around here as I begin to navigate my way around. Thanks so much for having all this support at our fingertips.

Welcome, m4given! That’s a good question. I haven’t used Sonlight personally, so I’m not sure of all the details. I know you could easily enter all the books that you are planning to read, then work your way through them at your own pace in the CM Organizer.

Are there other aspects that you’re thinking of specifically? Maybe somebody here with Sonlight experience can help.

Thanks Sonya ~ I it helps to know that there is flexibility within the system. I just saw you have a forum for the CM Orginizer. Perusing through that forum should be quite helpful in getting a good feel for it.

I continue to work to fine tune our home education experience. The more I’m organized, the better everything seems to flow. I don’t think I have any specific question with SL, but wondered about the CM Organizer flexibility.

    Welcome M4Given,

The organizer is very flexible and fits nicely with any curriculum, I believe. Some people on here even enter their chores in the planner. I don’t use SL but we have read many of the books suggested by SL. You will probably find that many of the readers will already be in the BookFinder so it makes scheduling and planning in the CM Organizer even easier.

We have a whole series of videos showing how the CM Organizer works. You might want to at least watch the overview as that will give you a good feel for it.

We also have a free trial so you can test it out yourself and see how it fits. We just did an upgrade and we’re still fixing a few problems. I’d wait a few days before trying it to give us a chance to get things working a little more smoothly and quickly.

I mix CM with Sonlight (I only use their history, readers and read alouds) and I also use the organizer. In fact, I LOVE the organizer it has really helped with my planning, recording and book finding! Definitely give it a go, you won’t be disappointed. You can add your own resource if the book you want to use is not currently saved.

Thanks to all of you. I’m sorry I didn’t come back here earlier to respond. I’ll check it out further. Sounds like a great way to keep records for us as well as for state purposes. I’m guessing that lots of the bugs are now taken care of?
