CM Organizer Question

I am trying the CM Organizer and I love it so far!

I’d like to be able to schedule a book, then when it is in my daily plan I want to just check it off every day until we are finished. I don’t want to go by chapters, but just tell it we are working on it.

Right now if I check the box for “worked on”, the Organizer thinks we are still working on chapter 1. If I check the box for “finished”, it only thinks we finished that chapter and then schedules the next chapter. But I don’t want it to keep track of each and every chapter as we go along.

Is there a way to just show that we are still working on a book by checking it off as “worked on”, and then just tell it when we finish that book?

    Thanks so much~

    Hi Brenna!

I completely understand where you’re coming from as we too just want to read sometimes for a certain period of time and not assign chapters.

So, what I have done is add the book we want to read under “add your own resource”. Then, I make sure to NOT add any chapter divisions. That way when I go to schedule the book it will be a complete resource that will only show up as either still working on or finished. Does that make sense?

Thanks so much. I could do that, but there are so many of our books that I’d like to do without the chapters. It kind of stinks to have to go back through and re-enter them all without the divisions. In fact, I’m not sure I’ll have time to redo it all that way. I was so thrilled at how it is working for us other than this issue.

If there are any other ideas I’d love to hear them. My kids are all young, so very often we just read until we stop~ never mind the chapters. You know?

    Thanks,

    Brenna

Oh Brenna, I wish I could help you on this one. I would have no idea how to get around your problem except to only re-enter the book without divisions as you go through the year. That way it would only take a couple of minutes for each scheduled resource that shows up on your organizer. I too am new with this so I’m sure someone else ,more seasoned than myself, might have a better idea for you.

    Blessings to you and yours!

    Hi, Brenna –

Another possibility would be to just add one resource called “Read Aloud Books” or something like that. Division type would be “Book” and then add just numbered divisions. So when you schedule it, it will show up on the Daily Plan something like “Read Aloud Books: Read together Book 1.” You can add a note that tells the title and just check off the Worked On until you’ve finished that book, then click Finished and the next “Read Aloud Books: Read together Book 2” will pop into place.

Does that make sense? Might that work for you? That way you would need to add only one new resource.

Sonya, I just have to say how clever you are! The organizer is so wonderful and so flexible!!! What a blessing to have this available for us. You always seems to be able to make a way around our many organizer challanges- thank you and again thank you! Simply CM is the gift of simplicity to us all!
