I am moving to MO in September where homeschoolers are required to track their hours in each subject.  I already use the CM Organizer, but I’m neither tech savvy, nor creative when it comes to novel uses of technology!  Can anyone think of how I can repurpose a pre-existing function on the organizer to keep track of my hours per subject, per kid – and if you’re really good, a way that might tally them??  Anyone in MO already doing this? I was going to use the HSLDA tracker, but I’m not a member this year, and can’t afford to be.

The CM Organizer automatically tracks days based on your activity, but not hours. Is your schedule per day of the week regular enough that you could get close enough by multiplying each day’s normal hours by the days recorded automatically?

Not really.  I wish I were that structured and predictable, but it’s what works best about the organizer – if we do something not on the schedule, or skip a subject that IS, I don’t get behind and it’s not trackable! I was hoping I could do something like add a “note” for the time we worked on each thing.  I’d still have to add it up by hand, but the notes would be arranged by subject and day, which I understand has some value with the type of record keeping MO wants to see.  But I’ve never used the notes function, and while giving it a try, I can’t see where notes come up on any of the reports.  If it’s not on a report, I’m not sure how to track it.

You could certainly add a note with the hours that were spent on the task to any assignment. Notes are saved per-assignment, not per-record. In other words, there’s one note per assignment, not one note saved each time you mark Worked On for an assignment. But you can continue to edit notes until you mark the assignment Finished.

Notes show as a yellow sticky note symbol on Progress reports when you select the Detailed setting, which can be expanded by clicking the sticky note. To expand all notes with one click, use the “Show All Notes” link in the upper right corner of the report.

Fwiw, I would also love to see the notes for each assignment saved just for that day. each day you could place a different note even if the assignment has not been finished. That would b awesome!!!!
