  • If you could choose 2 books that talked about the CM method, which one would it be?

I really liked both the Catherine Levison books – Charlotte Mason Education and More Charlotte Mason Education.  I think the biggest appeal is they are a pretyt quick read, tho they are packed with info.  It was really a lot of nuts and bolts to me and they have helped me tremendously (tho I’m still grasping for info often to keep myself from being sucked into other methods of schooling).

    For the Children’s Sake

The Original Home Schooling Azeris by CM (start with book 6).

I have For the Children’s Sake. Without me knowing, it is what made me more curious about CM. The first time I read it, I did not give the words time to be digested. When I read it the second time, I had a pencil in my hand to underlined and kept on saying, yes, yes… that makes sense. I need to read it a 3rd time to get it more concerate. I received a copy A Charlotte Mason Companion from the library via ILL. I skimed through it Saturday and am planning to read it throughly this weekend.

missceegee, why would you recommend me reading book 6? I love to hear the wisdom of other CM educators.

I do a lot of reading on this wonderful site and read old posts to help me grow and understand more. It is getting there little by little. I also read a lot from AO and CM blogs. I am so grateful for these wonderful site. They teach me challengae and I am growing. All of this to say is that, I am implemting her methods in our homeschool day and the children LOVE it and so do I.

I have read many things about CM from many people, but it’s been reading her own words and methods that has galvanized many things for me. Volume 6, Towards a Philosophy of Education, was written much later and reflects how her ideas, methods, philosophy grew and changed over time. I think it’s an excellent starting point as you go straight to the horse’s mouth.

    Blessings,

Don’t forget about the wealth of free information in the SCM Learning Library here on this website. There is a search tool at the bottom of the SCM website pages in case you are looking for something particular. I love the CM books by Karen Andreola and Catherine Levison equally.

I especially love the Learning and Living DVD set by SCM. I know that one isn’t a book, but the methods are explained so simply by Sonya.

It is a marathon process in learning CM methods that are refined by experience, but they are very enjoyable by both parents and children alike. 🙂 Best of Luck to you on this wonderful journey. 🙂

    5heartsathome,

Thank you. And so far it has been a beautiful journey.
