Chore motivation idea…..

Okay, so my girls were complaining about having to rush to get the leaves raked before it rains today, and we’re leaving for fine arts school in about an hour….
So, dd15 comes in a few minutes ago and says, “Mommy, I think I can rake a little longer now. I found a 20 on the front lawn!”
I’m truly LOL now, as I am holding a slightly damp $20-bill in my hand….
That reminds me of the chapter in All of a Kind Family where the mother hid coins around the parlor for her girls to discover while dusting. The most detestable chore to the girls, the dusting of the parlor, quickly became their favorite in their chore rotation.
Well, I’m not sure how the money ended up under the leaves. It wasn’t me! If I had put something under them, it would have been a couple of “George Washingtons” & not an “Andrew Jackson,” LOL.
I do feel bad for whoever dropped the money, though. I sort of hope it was the same person who stole the large, galvanized tub off of our tree lawn a few days ago. I had spray-painted it red & repurposed it as a planter for marigolds this summer. They took it, complete with rocks, soil, and a few remnants of dead marigold stems….probably for scrap metal. *Sigh*
All-Of-A-Kind Family was what came to mind for me as I read this. FWIW, I did this with my kiddos when they were a little younger. It was amazing how well the dusting, sweeping, and vacuuming was done there for a while. Maybe I need to get my penny jar out again, though I wonder if they’d be as excited now that they are all older – $20’s will NOT be hidden for motivation, however.
