This morning, I called the customer service number listed on their website. They had no record of my order, just that my name was in their system. I promptly wrote an email notifying them of the glitch and suggesting they do something about it.
I am so sorry that happened to you too. After they informed me that my order was void, I asked them to simply remove the “add to cart” option so other people aren’t fooled into thinking they purchased a book that would never come. The lady stated that she would report it to the appropriate department. Unfortunately, nothing has been done to fix the error and this continues to happen. However, I am glad that you called to find out so that you weren’t waiting for a book that would never come. I hope that you find one soon.
Thanks, Tammy. I did the exact same thing. I suggested they remove the ‘add to cart’ option and they assured me they would pass that on. I just hate that more people will probably do the same thing. I even looked for a way to leave a customer review so i could warn people not to order, but they only have solicited reviews listed.
Ok ladies. I am hoping for some info here. I am finalizing my son’s 1st gr yr, book list, etc. and we will be using Module 1. And have been unable to find this book, or the first section of it for anything close to reasonable.
1st Q. Can I just use the other read alouds, and simply omit Oxford Ancient History?
and: Are there other great books that would be age appropriate that talk about the cultures, farming, etc. for Egypt and any Biblical cultures that need to be read about? Considering using the Archealogy book that was just posted about along with map study for any Bible places listed in the mod 1 handbook.
I really really want to start with Mod 1 this year, and simply follow SCM curriculum guide pretty closely. Takes a lot of thinking work out for me! I hope something will come up that could work in its place for now. Thanks!
Thank you for the reply, I hadn’t seen this post thru all my searching. I think I will just find some children’s books at the local library on each topic, and edit the content as I go along and not sweat over this one thing anymore. Thank you.
Anyone know anything about Story of the World Vol 1? I’m thinking I’ll just get something to replace the Oxford book and then when I move on to module 2 and 3, maybe OFAH will be available either here or online somewhere.
The Oxford book is a three-book volume. I purchased each book from online used book vendors. With shipping, I believe it cost me $25 combining the three orders. The Oxford includes:
I tried to get the 3 vol. in one book that it showed at Oxford Univ. showing that they had it available. The transaction went through for 25.00 and said that they would bill my cc for the amount. Now they are saying that it is OOPrint and not available. I have to find out if it was charged or not. I’m glad I have the smaller Egypt one. I got it for 9.00 with shipping and it is like new and I just got it in the past month..so they are possible to find. I tried to find the Greek and Roman one but was having a hard time on those.
Okay…I think I have the wrong one? I have Oxford Children’s History of the World The Ancient World by Neil Grant and not the OOP one by Roy Burell. Are they the same? I just ordered the Romans and Greek ones for 18.00 including shipping.
Is there an ISBN# of the Ancient World one that I need?
Because I posted earlier, I did a search for the books today. The first volume, On the threshold, was nowhere to be found for a decent price. The Oxford Ancients book is by Burrell ISBN 0 19 521373 4. While I like this book, On the Threshold of History, there may be some good books about Egypt at your library. The other early civilizations will also be covered using the Bible. We have The Victor Journey through the Bible, The New Manners and Customs of Bible Times by Ralph Gower, Unwrapping the Pharaohs, and a 1967 volume called Illustrated Family Encyclopedia of the Living Bible Volume 1 Genesis.
I just checked out the early days of man. While On the Threshold of history does contain prehistoric info, early civilizations from Sumer and Egypt are the main subject. The Early Days of Man seems to have a prehistoric focus. I don’t think it is the same, but this is just from reading the book description. The price is right though.
Believe me, I have been looking diligently. Every morning when I get on the computer the first thing I do is a search to see if any of the Oxford books are available. Nothing yet.
I still would like to know if anyone knows anything about Story of the World. I will probably end up using other resources, but I’m not going to entertain that until I get closer to my school start date. I’m weird like that. Last year I ended up fizzling out on homeschool after Christmas break because I didn’t have enough structure to keep me on track. This year, I’m wanting to stick to structure like a life preserver. I’m sure I’ll find a balance somewhere along the way. 😉
