    Hi!

I have been searching the internet for 2 days now trying to find this out -of -print book at a reasonable price but to no avail, and unfortunately, our library system did not have it.

BUT…After reading all the info. on this book and realizing that Oxford’s Children’s Ancient History is virtually the same book (which I also could not find reasonably) made up of 3 separate books, I was able to find these fairly easily and inexpensively.

The first title is: “A First Ancient History: On the Threshold of History, Bk. 1” by R.E.C. Burrell

The second title is: “A First Ancient History: The Greeks, Bk. 2” by R.E.C. Burrell

The third Title is: “A First Ancient History: The Romans, Bk.3” by R.E.C. Burrell

I really hope this helps someone who may be about to pull their hair out LOL!

So those 3 books are actually just Oxford’s Children’s Ancient History, just separated?  Just want to make sure I understand what you’re saying.  I have had an equally hard time finding this book.  Yup, pulling my hair out about sums it up…  LOL

Yes, Sara, from the research I have done (including this site) that is the conclusion I have reached by comparing table of contents, etc. Also, on one of the Amazon type book sites (don’t remember which one I looked at so many! LOL) it actually described the Children’s Ancient history book as comprising the separate 3 titles into one volume.

Does anyone from SCM know if I am right?

I can’t tell for certain, since I can’t get a look inside; but the author is the same and the illustration looks very similar. I’d be inclined to grab them at those great used prices.

Thanks for posting this.  I too was getting a little crazy looking at the prices. The book sold for $25 new in some places from what I see.  I can’t believe people are taking advantage like that!  I will look into these other books for sure!

    Alibris says:

Oxford children’s ancient history. A collected volume on Ancient History, comprising 3 former volumes: “On the Threshold of History”, “The Greeks”, and “The Romans”.

    Amazon says;

Oxford First Ancient history. This handsome volume is a compendium of the previous titles On the Threshold of History, The Greeks, and The Romans. The artwork is by the illustrious Peter Connolly. The previous UK version of this paperback, Oxford Children’s Ancient History, is now out of print, so this edition of Oxford First Ancient History will be common to UK and USA.

I am resurrecting this post.  😛  During my move over the last several weeks, I have put off doing any buying.  I found Book 2 and Book 3 mentioned above, but Book 1 is $100+!  Anyone know where I could get this one for a normal price?  The others were $.98 and $3, respectively, on Amazon.com.

Unfortunately, they won’t ship to the US.  🙁  I’ll just keep looking, I guess.

There are a few on Amazon.ca – I know the second book for sure. And just 2 cents! Seriously:) You pay extra for shipping but its just coming from Canada…here is a link to one I found..

That’s the 2nd book.  The 1st is all out of stock.  Ach…  Thanks to all for trying!  Are there other Amazon sites I don’t know about?  I’d be willing to look myself, but I don’t even know what the others are.

Try ebay, and I have sometimes had good luck with abebooks.com they are a gathering place of resellers, worth a try?

Tried both of those last night.  Boy, I just don’t know where else to look.  I just sent my mom an email to look at used bookstores, and there is one thrift store in town here (small town, far from “real” stores).  Maybe between the 2 of us we can find something.

Have you checked on bookfinder.com? It will search the Internet for new and used copies and give you all their sources and prices in one list. Saves time! (Though I’m not sure it does eBay, come to think of it . . . )

Thanks for the site, Sonya.  Yeah, the cheapest out there is on Amazon, and it’s $104.  Frown  I’ve tried Google shopping, too, and it can’t find any at all.
