I recently received in the mail A Child’s Book of Character Building, Book 1. I really like most of the examples except I am wondering why a book on a homeschool site would be recommended when it has an example of character in school for every section? The school examples are geared towards public schools and talk about taking the bus, teachers and classes. I guess I have some disappointment in the resource. Curious to know if people skip over the school sections? I would prefer a book that wasn’t geared towards kids going to traditional school. Is there a different book that gets the point across without school examples? I am using this book for a 1st grader.

    Thanks!

You could easily skip the school section, however, I’ve found that section useful, too.

While all of my kids have been home from birth and have never attended preschool or school, they are in group situations at church, homeschool co-op, at museums and other crowded places and I’ve found the examples in the book just as applicable to those situations as to a “strict” school setting.

Other books on character building that we’ve enjoyed include Miller series (Wisdom and the Millers, Storytime and the Millers, etc.), any book from Lamplighter publishing, Little Visits with God, ABC Memory Verses.

HI, i have used A Child’s Book of Character Building, Book 1 and Book 2 and we did really like them. We used the first sections you mentioned as an example for behavior at most places we go (like Chrisite said above).

I also am LOVING the Wisdom and the Millers book for my 8yr old (her older sister 12 is stopping her subject she’s in when i read it aloud to the 8yr old because she loves the stories also!).
