A lady from our church, who was my supervisor in the ACE school I attended in the 70’s, and has been my homeschool evaluator for years, is also an author. She has written a series of chapter books called Keystone Stables (we’re from PA:), as well as some other individual books. She just recently had a book published called “Straight From the Horse’s Mouth”. It is a 60 day devotional, each day focusing on a different breed of horse. My daughter has been using it for some character/Bible study a couple days a week. Marsha Hubler, the author, will give description about a horse, including behavior, and then correlate it with a Scripture verse and character trait of a person, and encourage the reader to have, or not have, the trait displayed by the horse. One of the devotion titles is “The Abtenauer: Small but Mighty”. Marsha gives information about the Abtenauer (draft horse), and tells how this horse is small, but very strong and does much work. The verse that goes along with it is II Corinthians 10:4. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.” She encourages the reader that even though we think we can’t do something, we can with God’s strength. Philippians 4:13. She ends with a prayer and then a Saddle Up section (What would God have me to do?), where there is a little written work. She also includes a website where more information can be found about the different horses. My 15yo daughter is doing this independently and is learning from it.

If anyone is interested in this book, you can visit Marsha’s website…www.marshahublerauthor.com

The book costs $9 + shipping. 280 pages. Any questions, feel free to ask.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a horse loving daughter. She has read the Sunrise Stable books and is always on the look out for other faith based books that include horses. I will check out the devotional book, sounds like it could be really good.

Here is the blurb from the back cover. It may give a better picture of what is included in the book.

    STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH

    A 60-Day Devotional for Kids

Do you know there are over 300 breeds of horses? And do you know that horses are mentioned about 150 times in the Bible? It seems to me if God mentioned horses so many times in His Holy Word, then He might be fond of one of the most beautiful animals he ever created.

If you’d like to learn about 60 different breeds of horses and at the same time learn how a Christian young person can live to please God, this devotional is for you.

What if Jesus walked up to you right now and asked you to follow Him? What does that mean? How would you do it?

As you read each daily devotion, you’ll read verses from the Bible that will show you how to please God and how to be a blessing to all those around you. You’ll also learn that, as a Christian, you’ll ride with Jesus and a great army in heaven someday, and we’ll all be riding white horses.

So, take a few quiet moments, open this book, and come ride with me!
