I’m home with my 2 youngest, an almost 3 year old girl and a 4 month old boy, while Daddy is on a trip with the older two, so I’ve been busy trying to complete all of my planning for next school year, which will start in July for us since we school year round.

We are currently planning on spending at least one month next year (possibly April or May) on the small Caribbean island of Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic). My husband has done mission work there for the past 7 years and we took the family for 2 weeks when the oldest was 4 and the second was only 1. This will be our first time since then, traveling for an extended time with the kids and I know I will need to take some limited school work with us.

I’m wondering if anyone has any great resources or ideas that would apply to the Caribbean. Natural history, history, geography, culture, etc. – anything you might suggest that I shouldn’t forget to try to include is appreciated. We will soak in the culture of the island, reunite with old friends and enjoy the natural beauty of it, but I’d like to make our “school time” while there as applicable as possible, too.

    Thanks,

    Christie

I’m bumping this back up in hopes of some replies. We’re set to go May 2011 for mission work and a bit of vacation, too. I’m just not finding anything for us book wise.

    Thanks,

    Christie

Buccaneers and Pirates of Our Coasts by Frank Stockton and For Prey and Spoils by Ober might be fun reads – they’re on http://www.heritage-history.com for free.

Thank you! I’ll look into them.
