  • I also want to say thank you to everyone for some awesome recommendations. I’ve been looking hard for books for my son. He isn’t quite ready for some on this list, though many I think will be perfect! A selection including some of Enid Blyton, Geronimo Stilton, even the one about the donkey – don’t remember the title, and 100 Cupboards were ordered today from Amazon! The others were put on the wish list for when he’s ready!

I agree Becky, these recommendations are my go-to! 🙂

My son has really enjoyed: The Viking Quest novels by Lois Walfrid Johnson.  (For that matter the girls did too.), Sugar Creek Gang books are a must too.

A Study In Scarlet is the one Sherlock Holmes book to avoid.  I enjoyed the rest – that one was awful.  Feel the same as Bookworm about it. =)

We are half way through the final book of the 100 cupboard triolgy.  Excellent books for middle school kids, especially if they are strong readers.  I’ve been reading them to my 11 year old son.  I would wait at least another year or two before sharing them with my younger, more sensitive son.

Yes, Nate Wilson is a good writer but it is for stronger readers. I just watched his Tilt A Whirl DVD, powerful content that would be good for anyone to watch, especially teens.

My son isn’t anywhere near 12 years old but I read some of the Sugar Creek Gang books aloud with him and my 9 year old and they LOVED them!
