Hi there…my 6yo son is very interested in the Civil War so I’m looking for some good, simple books. Any suggestions? Even something slightly above this level would be good.

    Thanks!

I am thinking of good, children books about Abraham Lincoln.  Maybe the one by D’Aulaire:

http://www.bfbooks.com/Abraham-Lincoln-Ingri-Edgar-Daulaire_2  There are so many good Lincoln books and audio programs like Your Story Hour and one 2-part episode of Adventures in Odyssey called Lincoln I and II.

Are there any civil war sights around you that you could visit, or Linoln sights?  If you can’t go there, you might be able to visit some of their websites.

Most of these are above his level, but here goes:

B is for Battle Cry By Patricia Bauer

David C. King. American Kids in History: Civil War Days

Cornerstones of Freedom series: The Story of The Battle of Bull Run by Zachary Kent; The Story of the Gettysburg Address by Kenneth Richards

This site has more in the Cornerstones series:

David Adler. Picture Book of Abraham Lincoln; Picture Book of Robert E. Lee

If you can find these magazines:

Cobblestone, Dec. 1999: Children in the Civil War

Cobblestone, Oct. 1995: Ulysses S. Grant

Appleseeds, April 2003: Children in the Civil War (I wrote the article about Vicksburg)

If you have access to EBSCO databases through your library, you can access the articles individually.
