Ladies, I just went to our “Friends of the library” book sale.  Is all just a donation.  I got a ton of books, here’s just a little list and I donated $10 and they were thrilled (I believe I was more thrilled then they were)

Bevis (Wordsworth.. I thought this was a great find?), Stormy Misty’s Foal, Where teh Red Fern Grows, 5 of the Sugar Creek Gang books, 2 of the Hardy Boys series books, Little house on teh prairie, Harry Potter, Sea Star, the 3 musketeers, aespo’s fables, Justin Morgan Had a Horse, The secret garden, The call of the wild, about 7 great books about animals (not twaddle) and a couple odds and ends.  Did I do great or what I was so happy!!

I also got 19 Magic Tree house books.. about these do I keep or paperswap, I am not sure this is great literature?  I have been pretty picky and want only the best, are these the best? My boys have been reading from the literature list here and from great sites AO and such.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement Misty

You did great!!!!  I don’t know the answer to the MTH question, but I would let them keep a few if they were interested.

Ok.. so I thought I’d bring this back up to the top in hopes to get a feel from the MTH books.  I don’t have time to read these, I know so think they are fine and not twaddle and others say twaddle all the way.  For those who say “twaddle” why do you feel this way?  They need to either go on the swap list and move or go to my book shelf which is not big enough now that we are a CM familySmile! I don’t think MTH books would qualify as great literature, but my middle son loved reading them.  They were great to help him get a start on reading chapter books on his own.  I like how they are historical in the fact that Jack and Annie are visiting a different time period and learning about history.  Let your kids read a few (see if you can match up any of the titles to a time period you are studying) and see what they think!

While we’re on the subject, I intend to let my children read the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, but they’re not great literature, either. I remember one (I forget the title, but it was one of the earlier hardbacks of the Hardy Boys) in which the villian shows no remorse, then one or two pages later, for no reason, decides to open a boys’ home when he gets out of prison.
