We use a Timeline and History Notebooking (coloring/drawing illustrations of History Story and written Narrations). But I am now switching my 13 yr old over to BOC, using this method:

Should I go ahead and switch my 10 yr old over to this as well? And, I read in another BOC thread, that some families keep a ‘Family BOC,’ should I do this too, in order to ‘prepare’ my younger children for a BOC?

I’m confused…we came from 2 yrs of history with MFW, using only Notebooking!!!

I would think your 10yo could do his own BOC as well, but two questions come to mind that you might want to consider in the decision: 1) Has the 10yo’s handwriting progressed to the point that he/she will not be ashamed of what the BOC looks like in a few years as he/she writes in it? and 2) Would it be easier for you to switch them both over to BOCs at the same time, or to get your 13yo started now and then bring in your 10yo later?

We usually did a Family BOC when the children were younger, before they started their individual BOCs. If you have children younger than your 10yo, you could start a Family BOC with them if you want to (and include your 10yo if you decide to postpone the switch over).

The main thing to keep in mind is that the BOC is a tool; it should be your servant, not your master. So use it as it works best for you.
