You can blog .wordpress.com for free. If you want your own domain name you pay. My hubby sets all that kind of stuff up for me, so I probably am not much help. But if you want to operate for free, there’s nothing wrong with a wordpress address.

I don’t know that all that initial blogging made me a more organized blogger or not. My blogging personality kind of evolved and developed over those years, and I did get in lots of practice. 😉 I didn’t start my blog with the intent of having one particular focus; it was just a place to keep a sort of digital scrapbook. If you want your blog to have a central theme, then you should make sure it’s a topic your passionate about before you jump in. Otherwise, you might get burned out or bored after a year or two.

I’m joining the conversation a little late, but thought I’d throw in a few extra thoughts. I first started a blog several years ago just because I had a few friends whose blog I wanted to follow. It was easier to follow if I had my own account. I would randomly post a few things here and there.

Back in 2011, I started home schooling, so then I wanted to share what was going on with our friends and family. At that point, I wanted to be able to post about home schooling and about my personal reflections or random things that came up, so that’s what I did.

Last year, we added more info about our short term mission work. In the summer we were in Uganda for 2 months and had no phones or anything. We did get internet off and on, so blogging was the easiest way for people to keep up with us. We are now planning to move to Uganda as long term global workers (missionaries), so we definitely use our blog to keep people updated on our progress, prayer needs, and what not. I still add stuff about home schooling, every day life, and reflections.

I put a label on the posts so that people have an idea what they’re about, which helps keep it fairly simple.

I just wanted to share because I wanted to say that you don’t have to worry about getting all right in the beginning. Because blogging in digital, rather than print, you can edit and change things up as you learn and grow and life changes.
