Costco has it on sale this month… $369 with free shipping…

    Should I?  Shouldn’t I?  Convince me!

Do you make smoothies?  Do you make your own sauces, dips, and soups?  Do you want to grind grains and don’t have a grain grinder (or is your grinder a hassle to deal with and want something new)?  Do you make your own laundry detergent and need to grate or powder soap?  Is it something you will use and get your money’s worth?  The answers will let you know if you should go for it or not.

Have one. Love it. Use it daily for green and fruit smoothies. Make baby food in it. And have ground grains in it too.

Ditto Tristan. I have it. Use it A LOT! It’s wonderful in so many ways. It’s also the easiest to clean blender I’ve ever owned.

Oh, have you used it as a grain grinder?  I’d LOVE to be able to do it, but haven’t made the plunge because I didn’t want the extra equipment AND the expense for a single focus appliance.  We don’t make smoothies, but would like to.  I do make sauces, dips, salad dressings and soups, but most often use my immersion blender.

My primary purpose for it, would be the smoothies (though we make our own ice cream and I’m hoping this would make it easier).   Also as a substitute for our juicer which takes out more than it puts in… (I feel like I”ve heard that they are good for using the whole fruit to juice?)

I have made simple easy ice cream in the blendtec, but haven’t ground grains because I have a mill. A mill unused since I went GF.

I have used my Blendtec to grind grain.  It scratches up the jar a bit, but doesn’t effect the performance.  I usually only grind it when I need a little though (a cup or so)….I’ve done wheat, rice, spelt, corn, flax, and barley.  If I need more than that I use my grain mill.

We use ours almost daily for smoothies.

For those of you who grind your grain in it, something you may consider:

When you sprout grain and then dry it, it becomes extremely soft to grind so it’d be much easier in the blender.

    Just 2 cents…I don’t have a blendtec, though I need a new blender soon.

I have a Vitamix, but think a Blendtec or Vitamix is worth every penny paid. Each is easy to clean, long lasting, have warranties, grind grains, make the smoothest smoothies using cores and peels of fruits like apples and pears. We make the best hummus, dips, soups, dressings, sauces, ice cream from frozen fruit, nut butters, almond milk, purées for carrot or zucchini bread, almond meal, green smoothies, raw applesauce using core and peel, purées for fruit leathers, roux, slaw, cold coffee drinks better than coffee shops (I add raw cashews for creaminess in these drinks), healthy pudding with avocados for creaminess, date/nut based pie crusts, and much more.

I have also made puréed food for a sick elderly friend before. If I had this when my kids were babies, I would have made my own baby food.

If you have the funds and see that you will use it often, I don’t think you would regret the purchase. When I purchased our blender, Vitamix had a one month trial period, returning it for a full refund if you didn’t decide to keep it within that month. Perhaps you could see if Blendtec has the same trial period.

I was just looking into the Blentec.  As my Ninja has been a good blender but I use mine so fast I am lucky if I get a year out of them.

I can’t afford a Vitamix (that’s just a dream) but told my dh that I just heard about this Blendtec and it’s a 1/2 way point that we need to start saving for.  He’s almost on board.  Just seems so hard for him to buy a blender that’s in the hundreds.  I tried to explain it’s like his cordless drill for kitchens :0)

Thanks for the thread.  I will start saving my pennies!

I don’t know what Blendtec return policy is, but COSTCO is FABULOUS!!!!  I’m so spoiled with their excellent customer service – I had an electric pencil sharpener I got from them that worked for less than a year, can’t remember the exact time frame.  I took it back and they refunded my money, if I get a case of fruit from them (peaches most often), wait for them to ripen and then find out they are mealy and tasteless – they’ll take them back (not because I let them rot, but because they weren’t good to begin with).  So that is what really pushes me to get it, if we find out it’s not worth the money, I know that Costco will take it back.

    Thanks for all the tips!

Ibkim2 – I would LOVE to know where you get all those recipes.  Applesauce WITH the core???? Really??

We love Costco customer service as well. Here they have demos for Vitamix and Blendtec at various times during the year. Most of my recipes are from the book they give with the Vitamix, but they can be viewed on the Vitamix website as well. A Blendtec will blend the peel and cores of most fruits as well (well the fruits you would eat the peel of anyway). That’s the beauty of a power blender. I blend pineapple core with the pineapple as well since there is a nutrient that is a natural anti inflammatory in the core. I recommend you search for Blendtec or Vitamix videos on YouTube and there are several with people making healthy recipes. Also in the power blenders, if you blend the white part of an orange or lemon, it has tons more nutritional value. It does make the drinks I blend those things with foamy though….I just chug it down anyway. Just know to take out the seeds of citrus fruits, cuz those taste bitter when blended. But blending the seeds from melons and bell peppers adds nutritional value and don’t alter the taste much. Any sauce I make, like stir fry sauce for example, I blend on low/medium in the Vitamix so I can use a whole fresh clove of garlic and a whole fresh piece of ginger instead of using the store bought powders. They blend smoothly into the liquid and taste better. Also, you may want to check out the website greensmoothiegirl.com . The lady promotes a Blendtec to help with a whole foods diet and she has some videos showing some healthy things she makes as well.

    It arrived!  I’m excited!

Lindsey!!!  I found some of the recipes on your blog and I’m wondering if you ever use Kale in your smoothies – NT says it needs to be cooked, but I know it’s all the rage in green smoothies – have any advice?
