Hi, I am new to SCM and am considering using the History guides this coming year with my 4th, 2nd, and 1st graders. My question is, since there are 6 guides, if you use the curriculum long-term do you cycle through each guide twice? Also, since I have a fairly large family (6 kids…so far) does it really matter which guide I start with since some of my children will come along later once we have already started and they won’t be starting at the first guide? Thanks for any input!

Children who start with the guides as a 1st grader will cycle through the guides 2x.  We suggest that you start with whichever guide you are most interested in and simply move forward in chronological order from there.  Some families like to start with the Genesis through Deuteronomy guide to spend time laying a solid Biblical foundation for future history studies.  Other families prefer to start with our Early Modern because they believe American history more easily accessible to their children.  I’ve even talked with some families who have started with the Middle Ages because they had a group of children who were fascinated with knights, queens, kings, and castles.

It is truly up to you.
