Hello friends! I simply have to share our exciting nature study day with y’all…

Some precious friends of ours are embarking on a church-farm and garden adventure on 10 acres of property owned by their church body. Although we are not members in their congregation we’ve been asked to take part in what they are doing and help with the vegetable gardening aspect (as we have several years of gardening experience under our belts). Our friends have a lot of experience with livestock, especially chickens, so they decided to begin with a pastured poultry project. Only one problem, they are putting their house on the market and their garage is in no shape to brood over 100 baby chicks…

A couple weeks ago I had an overwhelming motivation to clean out our garage (no small task, trust me!) and I spent the better part of the day, in the heat and humidity of south Texas doing just that. We had no idea how stressed and overwhelmed our friends were in trying to figure out where to set up the brooder, and now I know why God gave me the random strength to prepare our garage! As of this morning we have 130 sweet little baby chicks, fresh from the hatchery in a cozy brooder that our husbands built together yesterday. Our children are overjoyed! We’ve spent hours today with paper, pencils and clipboards drawing the chicks. It is the best nature study we’ve ever had, and we will be able to watch them grow over the next three weeks before they’re taken to the church-farm. Their markings will darken and change so we will have a plethora of interesting nature studies at our fingertips!

I just wanted to share this with a group of sweet friends who I know would appreciate it, nature study is sometimes sparse here in south Texas suburbia so this is a big deal for us!

Thanks for listening, have a marvelous day!
