I have a 9 yr old son. I am a single mom (adopted my son from Russia when I was 40 yrs old). Since he doesn’t have a father/father figure in his life, I try to find ways to expose him to Christian men/role models. I also want him to read biographies or autobiographies of Christian men. Any suggestions on some that are age appropriate for a 9 yr old?
Thx,
Rhonda
Alicia HartParticipantI commend you for homeschooling as a single parent!! The books that I can think of for a 9 year old boy to read to himself would be:
any of the YWAM Christian Heroes Series (Meuller, Liddel, Nate Saint are just a few)
The Sower Series
Others to be read aloud to him would be:
Little Lord Fauntleroy
Lamplighter books and/or audio dramas
The Railway Children
If I think of others, I will post more.
Hope this is helpful!
Alicia HartParticipantI just posted this in another reply, but in case you did not see it, another WONDERFUL resource for Biblical character literature is Grace and Truth Books!!!
Wings2flyParticipantAgreeing about YWAM Christian Heroes by Janet and Geoff Benge.
Good for you to read to him are books by Bob Schultz like Created for Work. There are 34 short chapters, so we read one per week in our read aloud rotation. It has helped me too! Available at CBD.
Also as part of our read aloud rotation, we read weekly from a Millers book by Mildred A. Martin. There are several titles like Wisdom and the Millers, Growing with the Millers, etc. They are Mennonite-based and available at Christian Light Education. They are great character stories with related Scripture. I like how the dad in the stories is portrayed as a strong Christian leader. He leads them in family Bible devotions.
