I wanted to share a website I have just started using with my beginning reader. It’s http://www.readingbear.org   Totally Free!

There are progressive lessons starting with short vowel sounds (each vowel it’s own lesson) and moving on to various blends and more complex letter combinations. 50 lessons total, with reviews along the progression. Also, each lesson is divided into small sections which it keeps track of which ones you’ve done and how often.

At the end of each section is an ‘interlude’. This is an option, but worth keeping! It’s a mini picture/composer study! Just about 20 seconds of a picture with musical accompaniment, the picture title and artist, composer and piece are given.

When you select the lesson you are given several options, as to having the letters sounded out, having words presented without sounds, or having whole sentences to read, etc. We are just getting started, so we have not explored all the options, but I am very impressed.

My son was showing interest in reading, but 100 Easy Lessons, or simple books were not appealing to him – so far this has his attention.

Hope this is of help to other families,

    Vanessa

Thanks! I have a 5yo who is beginning to show some interest in reading and this might be very helpful to him.
