So we are already struggling with the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin.  I’m thinking we are going to have to read this one aloud and take it slower because it even a little hard for me to grasp at times.  Has anyone else had trouble with understand some of it?  We are stopping every so much and discussing and narrating.  I thought about adding Poor Richard as a supplement (both boys are in 10th and 11th) just to give a little easier reading.  Do you think that is too much?

My ds struggled to get through that one as well.  I got him the Audible audio book and I think that helped, but I’m not sure how much 🙁

Poor Richard is for younger students, but my 10 yo was struggling through that one so we are reading the D’aulaires Ben Franklin right now.

I think it’s the writing style of Stephen Daugherty, not sure I care for it. And the amount of words the autobiography contains packed in a little tiny book, is a bit much. My opinion, of course!

My 9th grader will be reading Poor Richard next year.  I’d originally planed on the Autobiography, but after skimming through it, I decided to go with the other.  Maybe you could read aloud a portion of it and assign the other for independent reading?
