Rachel got me thinking in another post about audio books. She has some great ones listed!! I would love to hear what other audios people are using with their children. I find most of our on librivox.org.
Rachel WhiteParticipantI am so thankful for audiobooks. Librivox is great. I also receive weekly stories 40’s and 50’s radio at:
I’ve also purchased collections from them inc.
E. Nesbits Shakespeare w/many bonuses for teaching
Both “Famous stories” books from James Baldwin w/ebooks and
Robinson Crusoe retold by J. Baldwin
Great Dog stories w/Call of the Wild reading
Collection of poetry
Biography’s of founding father’s by J. Baldwin
I also recieve weekly stories from YOU NEED A STORY at:

Don’t forget the library!
Blackstone audio has sales on their tapes as well as a rental program -great variety.
Other stories have been: Pollyanna, Raggedy Ann;first two Little House books; Jim Weiss stories;Heidi; 8 cd Hans Christian Anderson; Charlotte’s web; George Sarris cd’s of word for word reading of Scripture; variuos Rabbit Ears productions; Arnold Lobel stories; Tales of Beatrix Potter and others. The only abridged I will get is Jim Weiss. He’s a wondeful storyteller. The children get to experience a story as well as hear advanced language before they could get around to reading them. The best part is it takes some pressure off of me.
Rachel WhiteParticipantOh yeah, also it peaks interest in a story or genre that I am using to guide my children towards certain preferences.
Rachel WhiteParticipantI forgot to add that Jim Hodges records unabridged recordings of Henty and Lamplighter books, too.
ShannaParticipantThanks so much Rachel!!! Looking forward to downloading more audios.
gr8tfulCMmomParticipantSome more audio sites we frequent:

http://www.alcazaraudioworks.com/

http://wiredforbooks.org/kids.htm
http://littlelambsministry.freeservers.com/audiobiblestories.htm
http://www.awesomestories.com/
A few of these might be purchase sites, but most should be free downloads. This is more fun for us then watching TV and they are great for traveling in the car. Just load them on your mp3 player and go! (or burn them to a CD)
ShannaParticipantWe bought ipods for all of our children for this exact purpose. We bought them used on ebay or refurb from Apple. We have been very impressed with how well they have taken care of them. At the time our youngest to have one was 5. He is now 6 and the only reason his does not work is because the battery died and it is not worth the price Apple charges to replace it. So he will get a new refurb sometime next year.
We also load lots of teachings from Vision Forum or sermons from pastors that we like. Our children have learned lots.
Rachel WhiteParticipantI adore the vision forum materials. Speaking of which, has anyone listened to or read the vision forum version of Elsie Dinsmore? I have read mixed comments. Apparently the version put out by VF is altered from the original due to controversial content. I’d like to know more about it befroe I expose my very vulnerable daughter to them.
