I’ve never assigned grades. But one of my 9-yr-olds came to me and asked me to give him grades. When I asked why he said, ‘he just wanted grades’. Most of our studies would be difficult to do this with – we read history outloud and do oral narrations, same for science, with maybe a few hands-on projects or experiments or what have you. How would you assign a “grade” for these more Charlotte Mason subjects.
I can figure out math and spelling, but the others seem harder.
The weird things our kids want!!!! Just last week he begged me to teach him cursive writing!

CindySParticipantWhen a grade is required, I lean quite a bit on attitude in assigning a grade. Also orderliness, preparedness, timeliness; that sort of thing. It sounds like you have a very sweet, teachable student on your hands! Praise the Lord!
Doug SmithKeymasterWe’ve done some previous posts and had some forum discussions on grades and evaluations. Here are a couple I found with a quick search that might be helpful:

missceegeeParticipantI use some charts that I adapted from another homeschool mom -a progress chart and character chart. This is mainly for me to keep an idea of how we’re progressing as I tend to be forgetful. The character report is especially helpful to us.
