Has anyone used the Art of Logic Seminar based upon Isaac Watts’ book “Logic” from 1724? I’m sure it’s for an upper level child; I emailed them to find out their age recommendations. However, I was just curious if any here had used it.
I like the emphasis on the development of clear thinking within oneself. From the site:
His (Isaac Watts) perspective was that if a person could think clearly, know how ideas should be put together, know how to come to right conclusions, know what can affect their judgment and know rules for judging right, then they would be much more equipped to recognize wrong thinking (logical fallacies) in themselves and others. Isaac Watts’ Logic was to teach the individual how to think clearly – not teach them solely how to recognize wrong thinking in others. While he spends a brief time going over some of the more widely-used logical fallacies, his overall intent is to build your thinking so that you can mentally recognize and flag a fallacy in logic, even if you do not know the term.
ok, I found out that it is for ages 12-112, but he (from the company) said that some 10-12 yr. olds could get something out of it, though I wouldn’t have mine do it yet.
It’s me again! I thought I would post that this may be very CM friendly and not a dry type of Logic course. At Christianbook, this is the review-Daniel Valle’s Logic Course and here is the section on how the Seminar is presented: very story-like.
