We liked it! However, I was really bad in remembering to use it! 🙁 It is really fun to learn all the concepts! And amazing to see my ds drawing the same thing! It really looked like it was supposed to! 🙂

We have only used it a few times. I am bad about forgetting about it too. My ds likes it but, as mentioned above, would prefer to draw real animals instead of cartoon characters.

I think it all depends on who is learning! My ds loved the cartooning type drawing! Hey, it may even be something about boys! 🙂 If your child wants to learn how to draw “real” life, it may not be for him/her.
It is a great program to follow, and Mark is so funny! Wished I hadn’t let my subscrption expire OR forget about it!!!

I didn’t like the cartoonish aspect of it. We are using Creating a Masterpiece and really love that she teaches the kids how to really see an object and draw what is there.
She gives an example of a sunflower and shows how most children draw it when they are first starting to draw. Remember the daisy flowers you doodled in second grade? That is the ‘cartoon’ version of a flower. Yes, we can all see that what you drew is a flower, but does it capture what a sunflower actually looks like? No.
I think Mark’s program would be okay for kids just starting out, but you are definitely going to have to move past cartoon figures eventually :). Why not just start them off the right way?

I’m glad to see this post because I got on here to ask if anyone knows of a good art drawing program for elementary beginners. I have looked at creating a masterpiece, but it seems strange that they are just working on one drawing. And what do you do after that? Can anyone give more info about Creating a Masterpeice and how long it takes to use it? Does it give very basic beginning techniques? Or can anyone recommend other programs?
I had never heard of Mark Kistler. Will have to look that up.
