    Hello,

I hate the Apologia General Science program.  I was so excited to see it because it is recommended by so many Charlotte Mason groups – Uggg…it is so dry and boring, we absolutely hate it!  I’ve browsed some of the posts before coming here and I see that I am not alone.  Many people have given different suggestions.  I like the idea of the Rainbow Science that so many people seem to like – mostly because it includes everything you need, but I honestly cannot afford the $200+ price tag.  I just can’t decide what to do.

My son is 13 but has high-functioning autism.  He is performing at about a 3rd-4th grade level.  We have never done anything formal for science – just books and Bill Nye and other DVD’s, etc.  I wanted something more indepth because he actually loves science and I want to nurture that gift in him.  So…what do I do?  According to this world, he will be in high school next year.  I’d like to do something more than an elementary program – but the Apologia was way too much for him and sooooo dry and boring to us both….is there a happy medium?

I’d love any and all advice and recommendations!  Thank you, Melissa

We will bestarting the General Science book in one – two years. Until that time for the past four years we have enjoyed all the Exploring Creation books from Jeannie Fulbright. There are three Exploring Creation through Zoology, Botany, Astronomy, and a new one this year about  the Human Body. I can attest that all are a great read and very interesting. You can visit Jeannie Fulbrights website and get much more information about each book and then go to about any book distributer and purchase one. Hope this helps. We will miss these books when we have to move on to a higher level science.

    Blessings

Ambleside Online has some good (in my opinion) science recommendations.  I second the Jeannie Fulbright books also.
