We are using CTG this year and I really want to change some things up and incorporate more CM. Just curious how others mesh together MFW and SCM.

    Thanks

    HI Debbie,

Some things we do — Narration for history summaries;I look ahead in God and the history of Art and see what artists we will be covering during the year and then choose 3 or 4 to do picture study; we follow the music schedule in MFW and learn about a composer; The lessons are kept at about 15 to 20 minutes; just add in nature walks or studies or are they scheduled in CTG — I forget. Some MFW manuals have them scheduled. We learn one hymn per month but these are scheduled one for every two weeks when you get to Exploration to 1850.

I am thinking the only different thing from the manuals is the artist study. My kids do not enjoy drawing so we just read the history portion of God and the History of Art and do picture study instead.

I am not certain that I am answering your question. But I thought it was a start.

To be honest, I don’t know. The science for CTG is fairly lame so far and I don’t think we are getting much out it. The experiments don’t work most of the time. Genesis for Kids is so corny and my children and I skip more then we should probably. I love science and this sort of killing me. I really hope more people answer.

I’m sorry I haven’t said anything, but I didn’t have too much helpful to say. We used MFW one year but it just didn’t work for us. We thought nearly everything was on the lame side, and not NEARLY enough science. Or reading.

The one thing I did like–the projects–sort of trickled out by the last half of the year. Like they ran out of ideas or something. Hey, *I* run out of ideas in February–that’s why I tried a packaged curriculum again! LOL But I have a feeling that was our last foray into packaged curricula. We just aren’t a good fit I’m afraid.

If you need to supplement, then find a few more good books at the library. Apply basic principles like narration, short lessons. Add in more nature study. If Genesis for Kids is corny, set it aside and just read Genesis. 🙂 Find library books on science topics or experiments, or find one of the many online websites with experiments–some even have nice video.
