Anyone using Cross Fit kids as a regular part of their day?  I’d love to hear about what you are doing and any tips you could share.

    Thanks!

I’ve thought about it, but I think we are going to go with Primal Fitness from Mark’s Daily Apple. I’d prefer they master the basic exercises first.

Oh my goodness, I’m not the only homeschooler who does CrossFit with my kids?!? YAY!

I looked at doing CrossFit Kids with the kiddos, but realized that they enjoyed the challenge of trying to keep up with hubby and I, so we all just workout together, and generally stick to WODs that only use body weight. My dd rejoiced (read: strutted like a peacock) the day she actually beat my time in Angie… I didn’t think either of us would make it through to the end, but she did, and even came in under my time.

Having started my paleo/CrossFit journey with Mark’s website, I do really appreciate that all of his exercises are basic, and things you can easily do if there’s a playground nearby. And it’s so much fun!

How/when do you fit it into your day to do it as a whole family?  My husband is level 1 certified as an instructor (as a hobby not a profession) and he’s been doing it for years.  I’m just getting started.  I would love to find time for the whole family to do it together but I’m not sure how to do that on the week days.

Hahaha, that is the same question we ask ourselves 🙂

We used to do it first thing in the morning, but after we all got over the flu, we haven’t quite gotten back into a routine. But, we’re also a bit layed back in our schedule. The schedule on my fridge says school starts at 9am, but life dictates a different time schedule most days, so being a bit flexible gives us some wiggle room to fit it all in. I do plan on getting back to doing it first thing in the morning, so our schedule would be something like this…

    Wakeup

    Workout

Hygiene for the day & COFFEE!!!!!

    Breakfast

    Bible/Prayer

School OR Chores (depending on whether it’s a school day or “vacation” day)

It’s pretty easy to fit it in though, especially when you consider that most WODs take 7-20 minutes (with 20 minutes being a looong WOD).

I should prbably add that my husband works from home now. Before, when he worked at an office, we’d play around with it, and sometimes do a WOD at night before bed, or before dinner, or wake up a bit earlier, for example.

I hope this helps a bit!

Can anyone explain what Cross Fit is? Laughing I currently am doing P90-X and would like something challenging to do when finished. I’m planning to bike ride more when weather gets nicer.

    Thanks!

thepinkballerina … CrossFit is many things, but basically, it is a combination of olympic lifting, gymnastics, endurance, strength, and flexibility. WODs are workout of the day … and typically each day is different. For serious athletes a typical 2 days on, 1 day off, is your schedule. Definately look into it … it is amazing 🙂

Is there a schedule to follow or video online?

Aaargh, computers! I had just written out a great response, and my computer ate it!

thepinkballerina… If you Google “Crossfit” you will come up with an absolute ton of websites and videos. A lot of boxes (the Crossfit term for gym) post their daily WODs online, so that you can complete them even if you can’t make it to the box. YouTube has a bunch of videos, too (some good, some not so good), but they are great for learning proper form and basic movements. You can Google “Crossfit travel WODs” and come up with lists of workouts that can be done without equipment (pull-up bars, rings, weights, etc.). These are the WODs we mostly do, because they are almost entirely body weight based.

Also, if you have an android phone, there are a few apps out there… We primarily use ShakeX and UrbanWarfit. Both of these apps have a very comprehensive list of WODs; ShakeX allows you to shake your phone and pull up a randomized WOD (also allowing you to choose between whether or not you have access to equipment); UrbanWarfit divides the WODs into type and difficulty level (they even have a section solely devoted to travel WODs), as well as providing picture tutorials for most of the WODs.

I second CEprovidingmore… CrossFit is amazing!
