I was wondering if anyone has used a math journal. Basically it is a writing/drawing prompt for math. For example: I see 2 green apples and 1 red apple or I see a brown dog and 4 friends. I think the kids are supposed to write on the page 1+2=3 or whatever. Some ideas I thought of for my younger kids are number writing & drawing pictures, patterns, shapes, etc.

Has anyone done anything this, is there a good resource and does it fit in line with CM?

I’ve had my 8 yo dd occasionally do math copywork. I designed a little page of “fact family” houses and she fills in the blanks with the facts from 3 numbers I give – 5, 3, 8. I give about 9 sets of numbers at a time as that’s how many houses are on our page.

    5+3=8, 3+5=8, 8-5=3, 8-3=5

This is a bit different, but has proved useful and this reminded me to have her use this tool again.

    HTH,
